Jim B. Schaefer


Mr. Schaefer is currently an associate with the Law Firm of Zampi, Determan & Erickson LLP where he practices Construction Law, Business Law, Labor & Employment Law, Education Law, and Civil Litigation. Prior to joining Zampi, Determan & Erickson LLP, Mr. Schaefer worked at the firm of Scholefield and Associates where he focused on construction litigation.

Mr. Schaefer received his Juris Doctor degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2006, where he graduated cum laude in the top of his class. He was on the honor roll, deans list, and received an LSAT scholarship while attending Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

Prior to earning his law degree, Mr. Schaefer received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Law and Business Administration from California State University Northridge (CSUN) in 2003, where he graduated magna cum laude in the top ten percent of his class. He was also on the dean's list and honor roll while attending CSUN. In addition, Mr. Schaefer was one of only twelve specially selected students admitted to CSUN's Legal Research Program.

Mr. Schaefer started his career in the construction industry prior to becoming an attorney. Before Mr. Schaefer earned his legal degree, he worked extensively for more than fifteen years in the construction industry as a Vice-President, Project Manager, and Estimator for a successful general engineering firm in Southern California. The firm focused on heavy construction including grading, excavation, site work, concrete and paving, underground utilities, plumbing, electrical, and other related construction activities. He is extremely familiar with all construction practices and procedures and has vast empirical knowledge in the construction industry. He has negotiated and drafted numerous construction contracts and other business documents, coordinated and handled construction defect claims, and been actively involved with the construction industry for numerous years.

Mr. Schaefer is also trained in alternative dispute resolution as an arbitrator and mediator. He was a small claims mediator with the San Diego Superior Court from 2004-2005. He also interned for Judge Richard Wolfe with the Los Angles Superior Court from 2001-2002.

Mr. Schaefer is married to his wife, Michelle, and has two children Tyler and Megan. He enjoys spending time with his family, coaching his son’s baseball team, water sports, going to the beach and to the theater, and falconry in his free time.

Mr. Schaefer is admitted to practice law in California and is a member of the California State Bar, American Bar Association, San Diego County Bar Association, North San Diego County Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers
